Having a slim figure with a barely toned physique, bearing womanly curves. She has slender limbs and a diamond-shaped face which frames the delicate features on her face; with wide, bright eyes, thin eyebrows, a compact nose and mouth. Atop her head sits soft pink hair that drapes down to her lower back, accentuating the details on her person. Her hair is constantly let down and is naturally straight, from time to time it may be adorned with colorful flowers.
Catarina finds herself most comfortable in modest clothing - nothing too revealing or too disguising. Her choice in clothing doesn’t make her stand out much in a crowd, most likely not even guaranteeing her a second glance. She could find herself in a range of clothing; sundresses, sweaters, jeans, or rompers. Having no preference for a specific type of clothing, but favors lighter colors on her clothes. On some days she may have no color coordination due to not being able to see colors, but this is usually avoided thanks to her brother or her guessing on the shades.
Extra: Faded scars that lace around her wrists and ankles, and the mark on her hand.
III. PERSONALITY
Personality: Catarina is a gentle soul and handles life and people delicately - akin to the tenderness of a mother. Giving kindness without a second thought, not minding being right or wrong, instead focuses on what she can do to help. Constantly empathizing with others; she understands how others feel and responds in a positive manner. Avoiding brash impulses and thinking before she responds, managing to always appear calm in anger or frustration. Even in heated situations; Catarina maintains a reserved and straight front that doesn’t waver, letting no tears or panic cross her features until the act is over and she’s isolated herself. She wishes to not break down in front of others, since she wants to be strong for them and not deemed weak.
Catarina is a being of inquiry and has the knack of learning and discovering things in the world. The need to know is usually of more importance than the consequences it may reap for her. If the consequences are visibly more apparent than seeing something of intrigue, she’ll most likely have a moment of inner turmoil as she consider the options. Her curiosity also leads to her observing objects thoroughly be it something she’s never laid eyes upon or out of sheer boredom. She’s keen on noticing little details, or imagining what objects are which colors on the shades of black or white. Catarina’s handy at noticing changes in her surroundings, be it people’s actions or the environment itself. Though has the setback of not being able to read the atmosphere be it ill-intent, romance, or annoyance in most situations - leading herself in quite a pickle.
She is also open-minded to opinions and comments made by her peers, even if she may totally disagree with them. Resulting in her unbiased nature and tends to believe that people aren’t capable of misleading or lying to her - she trusts that everyone is a good person, until proven otherwise. She doesn’t let reputation, rank, or personality cloud her judgement, letting only her opinions on them change her mind. It could be a very dangerous trait for someone of her age to have, but this could also mean she’s very reliable and trusting.
Likes:
- Cherries. Anything related to cherries she loves; cherry pies, cherry smoothies, or even plain ole' cherries themselves. The taste, and the shape are just little plumps of perfection in her eyes.
- Flowers. She remembers in her youth how colorful and expressive flowers could be, she still admires them for they bring good memories to mind. The texture and smell was the same - though the colors were lifeless now.
- Weather. Put her in any weather; snowy, sunny, or rainy and she would still enjoy her day. She loves all the different climates and takes delight in the change of clothes - whether loose and thin or bundled and warm.
- Xavier. Her brother means the world to her, and she would do anything to ensure his happiness. Towards Xavier she tries to be a caring big sister, though she may act childish from time to time and rarely gets truly mad at him, she accepts him as he is and he accepts her in return.
Dislikes:
- Chains. They only remind her of the torture and pain she went through with her family, which is a touchy subject to tread on. Only making her wish those memories were gone and pray that her reality was a dream.
- Deadlines. She was never one to accomplish things under a certain amount of time. It makes her feel pressured no matter how much time she is given, she can become very distraught and anxious towards the end.
- Failing. Having a bitter taste from failure, she does not like the feeling very well considering the consequences it brought. Thus, why she tries her best in almost everything she does - even in simple tasks of life.
- Hospitals. She is wary of them since she wasn’t offered much medical attention in the past, and fears for her renewed independence. A simple checkup could ruin her hopes of adventure and living a normal life.
Motivations:
- Freedom. After being cooped up and having limited rights, she tries to live her life as best as she can now. Going out and doing activities she wants to do, not completing someone else’s labor for the rest of her life; Catarina doesn’t want to be a tool for someone else’s merit anymore. Experiencing life as it was meant to be is its own journey and she can join the ride as well now. Without getting threatened, scared, or hurt everyday seems to be a miracle, and now Catarina can delve into the real world of a citizen and explore.
- Parents. Even after all the years of not knowing if they’re dead or alive, Catarina feels obligated to know what has become of her parents. Even if the results are less desirable and she may never have the opportunity to actually see them again, she’d take whispers and rumors over nothing. She’d rather know the truth then be left with mysteries and unanswered questions, because their memory will never be lost within her. With a lingering hope that they are actually alive and well, and haven’t suffered much on their own.
Fears:
- Sharks || Selachophobia. Huge horrifying creatures that can also eat humans - terrify her. After hearing the stories and seeing one, she can conclude that they are a fearsome force to be reckoned with; considering they continue to haunt her mind when she’s by a large mass of water.
- Blindness || Scotomaphobia. Growing up, when tragedy became apparent for anyone that lived, she became weary of losing her vision permanently. It got to the point where she’ll sacrifice any of her other senses to just see - she thought if her sense of sight was taken away, she’d lose a bit of her existence.

V. HISTORY
- :
- Once upon a time, there was a humble family that felt content with their current standing in life. They lived in a little village that was nearby other clusters of villages, with not a lot or too little supplies and luxuries there. They were a family of four; with a mother, father, son, and daughter in the De Luca family - Diane and Corrado were the parents, while Xavier and Catarina were the children. Diane De Luca was a sweet, caring, and loving human being; similarly Corrado De Luca was also caring and usually gentle, but he knew when to be strict with his children. And the two siblings knew how to watch and care for each other as they had a close bond - protect each other. The De Luca’s life was pleasant and they didn’t wish for much, but the good well-being for their family.
As always though, not all good things last - and their life changed drastically after one night. Catarina was six-years-old when the event took place and she would never forget this memory. It was a rainy night when it all took place; the village was pillaged and what remains is mostly unknown to Catarina and Xavier as they were taken away from home. All Catarina had left from her home and affectionate parents was a small gold key that was given to her on her last birthday. Along with other children from their village, the siblings were kidnapped.
Catarina was practically inseparable from her brother during the whole ordeal, being one of the few children who stayed up from the beginning to the moment they were dropped off. Holding onto her brother until he woke up beside her in the carriage that was bringing them somewhere completely unknown. Most of the children were under the age of ten; having nothing seemingly in common with each other, except one thing - fear of what was to come next. There was only one thing each kid understood which was that their lives would never be the same after that night.
The children were all quickly put into work as slaves by their new masters; no training given at all, they were just threw into their field. There was no room for mistake as some kids were quickly made as examples to the rest on what will happen if you screw up. Catarina was one of those examples, forced to wear heavy shackles around her wrists and ankles while performing the tasks without fail or mistakes - weeks started to pass as the shackles felt like a burden with each growing day. A month has finally passed and she was relieved of her shackles, since they needed to be used for another child, a wave of guilt and solace passed over her mind. Her wrists and ankles now raw at the area where the shackles once were, vulnerable to aches and bleeding now if bothered.
Due to the conditions, provisions were limited and difficult to distribute evenly among the children - especially meat. Meat was scarce among them all, usually given a small scrap per week, so Catarina did the only logical thing that made sense to her. Give her small share to Xavier. Two years had passed since the first day they came to this wretched place - two years since Catarina had last tasted meat, making her feel ill to the very taste of it. Barely getting food or freedom; there was no thoughts of dreams, wishes, or miracles in this place anymore. Life continued like this for two more years, until there was rumors about plans of escape amongst the aging children. The whispers of fleeing had reached the ears of some of the overseers who watched over their work and the rumors were quickly silenced.
At the age of ten, Catarina was given a brand to signify she was a slave and was property - not a human. Every child received one so if they even escaped somehow, they would be returned by the government making their beliefs diminished greatly of ever being free. Now their terrible reality is scarred into their minds and body, making their pain more apparent every time it is even glanced at. Years continued passing without her knowledge, only the changing of seasons guided her through as a means of telling time. The young children slowly turning into young adults and teenagers before her eyes, time not excluding her either.
One day, there was an unmistakable commotion among the district that the guards tried to cover up from everyone. They weren’t allowing any of the slaves to leave their posts, in hopes of preventing an act of rebellion most likely. It was unknown to Catarina at the time, but the source of all the commotion was Xavier, her own brother. Her current task was cleaning; she worked alongside with a few other females while the rest were probably cooking or sewing, that was when a guard stepped in and asked her to accompany him - something was obviously off. The overseers rarely talked to them unless there was yelling and punishment involved, but not wanting trouble Catarina obliged. As soon as they left sight of the others, Catarina was knocked off her feet by a blow to the back of her head. The man was brandishing a wooden weapon as he repeatedly attacked Catarina with the tool, everything started to blur after that - the man’s speech, her vision, and time itself. No help came when she cried out, there was no help when blood started falling from her scalp, and no help when the world appeared to be dyed scarlet. Resistance was futile as her efforts to get on her feet or crawl away was quickly squashed by the man’s foot - Catarina was going to die.
Everything went black as fast as she was attacked, and everything was silent. The man, her breathing, and the assault all stopped. The sound of bare feet was heard, and Catarina was being shook violently and urgently; miraculously, she opened her eyes. She saw Xavier once her vision focused and the color crimson everywhere she looked; on her brother, on her body, and on the floor. Nearby was the lifeless body of the guard that was abusing her only moments before. Before words could be spoken she blacked out again. When her eyes opened again, she was being carried on Xavier’s back and miles of grass was the only thing her eyes could see - but there was no color, her world was black and white.
