What is a Raid?

A raid is an event (a chain of several parts), often in the form of a Request, that is designed for groups of Wizards to take together. There is no rank requirement for these. It is not needed for wizards to all be in the same guild, just that they are all of the same alignment i.e. All from a Light guild, or all from a Dark guild. Crime Sorcière is allowed to go with either Dark or Light guilds. Raids are much like plot threads, meaning that serious injury is possible with death only possible during a boss fight. Raids are a heavily modded event, with lots of NPCs and dice rolls used to determine certain things. Because of this, please do not freak out if an NPC does not post for a few days and you are waiting. Running just one of these takes a huge part of effort on the staff team's part, and there will be multiple running. We want each teams progress to be unique onto them as much as possible, so patience is a virtue that is required if participating in one of these events.

So a Raid is a type of Request?

Yes. It has a joint word count that every member's post works towards, which will be explained below. The enemies scale to meet the strength of the group. If a group of an A, C, and D rank wizards takes on a raid, the strongest that they will face will be an A Ranked enemy. In most cases the enemies will be B Rank, so long as they are not a boss.

Joint Word Counts

All raids work off of hefty word counts, often high above 10,000 words. A joint word count allows each members post--NPCs excluded--to count towards the word count for the entire thread. Example:

A raid's word count is 50,000. Member A types up a post that is 2,000 words, this causes the count to be 2,000/50,000. Member B types another post that is 2,000 words. The total now is 4,000/50,000 as each members word count adds to it. Even if a Word Count is reached, if there is current combat or the boss hasn't been killed, the Raid will continue.

Bosses

Each raid consists of a chain of requests, often 6 parts or more, that eventually culminate in a raid boss fights. Raid bosses are tough opponents and cannot be solo'd. Killing a raid boss grants materials for item improvement, loot drops in the form of weapons and other items, and Jewels. No matter who strikes the killing blow, everyone gets a chance to roll for items and loot that isn't guaranteed. Each member gets 1 roll, with more rolls to be purchased within the point shop prior to the boss fight.

Wait, bosses can kill you?

Only the last boss can. This means that if the raid is six parts long, only the last boss on part six--the final boss--is capable of killing you. The steaks are high, but the rewards are higher. Teamwork is key, and those players who work together are all but guaranteed success.

Final Tips

Keep in mind every members special traits, magical strengths, and weaknesses. Many of raids corridors and pathways have traps and chasms that only certain types of people can cross. Perhaps there's a heavy bolder that needs lifting, and only a character with Enhanced Strength can lift? Or perhaps there's a high ledge that requires the acrobatic trait to reach. Don't worry if you don't have a group with these traits, though, as there's always more than one way to reach the goal.
