II. APPEARANCE
Height: 6'
Weight: 130lbs
Hair: Raven black, thick, cut short.
Eyes: Deep purple
General Appearance: Cyrus is a tall, very slim, young man. He has an athletic build with long limbs and a thin face. His eyes are a deep purple, very rare among most people and extremely distinguishing as they remind many of pure amethyst. His hair is as black as a raven's feathers, cut short and well kept just like every other part of his attire. Cyrus is a bit of a neat freak when it comes to his appearance and looking absolutely spotless. From his shoes to every hair on his head, he hates it when anything is out of order or misplaced.
For attire, Cyrus usually dresses in an old victorian suit of purple silk. The suit itself is trimmed with gold, with large, open sleeves on both the arms and legs of the pants. The suit buttons up like a vest, with a paler purple ruffle descending in the neck-tie area of the shirt. On his feet he wears simple sneakers, covered by the same material of the suit to create a seamless appearance from head to toe. Black gloves cover his hands and a large, pointed, black cape covers his back that can be wrapped around him to easily conceal his appearance. The inside of the cape is crimson and the entire garment is outlined in gold trim. Finally, while out in public, Cyrus dons a mask of obsidian and purple coloring as to hide his appearance from the local authorities, particularly his strange looking eye that is a dead give away of his status as a runaway slave. His attire looks very similar to this.
Extra: As a child, while working as a slave, his master placed a strange curse on Cyrus's eye so as to mark Cyrus as his own. If Cyrus, or any of his other slaves, were ever to runaway then the curse would activate and change their eye into a deep pink with a v-looking shape in the iris. This V stood for the master's name, marking the child as a runaway slave of his so that the slave would be returned to him properly. Many people find this disfigured eye disturbing and can't look Cyrus in the eye while speaking to him, which is the reason he covers it up not to mention it's the mark that distinguishes him for authorities. The curse is in his left eye and looks like this.
III. PERSONALITY
Personality: Growing up as an abused slave child certainly had its effects on Cyrus. Normally people would think that a runaway slave would learn kindness and want to help others because they had been treated so poorly in life. Wrong. Cyrus only ever knew violence and punishment, learning that if he wanted someone to do something, that was the way to go about it. As such, he looks down on his subordinates and often times hates his superiors, though not to their face. As a child he learned to hide such hate from his master and does so with his superior guild members as well. With his subordinates he will lull them into a sense of friendship and maybe even kindness, lashing out at random times when they fail or make a minute mistake. To Cyrus, he is simply teaching them how to properly go about a task and in his eyes he is helping them in the long run.
Growing up poor and forced to perform unpaid labor, Cyrus has a desire for money and power. He thrives off of having power over someone else, whether it's physical or monetary. His curiosity and greed usually gets the better of him and will almost always force him to take requests with larger payments, regardless of the task or danger. Sometimes Cyrus is too curious for his own good. His desire to know more about people and eavesdrop on gossip has gotten him into trouble more times than he cares to count anymore.
Cyrus is a man of many masks and attributes this to his ability to easily talk to others and lie straight to their faces. Cyrus may be kind and simply talking at a bar with a friend at one moment, and the next moment he's taken the friend out back and whipped him bloody with his thread magic. One of his favorite things to do is cause people fear, in a sick sense he mentally gets off on observing people in a state of distress and blind fear. Cyrus can fit in with almost anyone and has no trouble being cruel, kind, or anything in between if the situation requires it. As such, people find it hard, if not impossible, to ever know Cyrus's true intentions and thoughts.
Cyrus isn't a germaphobe, but he doesn't like to be dirty. He makes it a point to always dress his best and look clean. Dirt, grime, and dust don't scare him, but he simply doesn't like it. Interestingly enough it only applies to himself as he has no problem interacting with dirty people so long as they don't get it on him. This distaste for personal filth can be attributed to his life as a slave where baths were few and far between, leaving him in a state of crusted filth for months at a time. If he is clean, he doesn't think about his childhood.
Likes:
- Punishing others (tough love)
- Power
- Money
- Lying
- Fear
Dislikes:
- Superiors
- Inferior subordinates
- Strong wills
- Pain (to himself)
- Dirt
Motivations:
- Power - Cyrus is obsessed with having power over others. He enjoys being able to hold it up above them and watching people squirm under his rule. If it's possible to be in control, he will do everything he can to do so. This motivation doesn't have a greater goal or even a long term, large scale one. On a day to day basis, Cyrus simply loves having power over someone or something, treating them like his play thing rather than a human being.
- Money - Cyrus is greedy, plain and simple. On a subconscious level, he knows that the more money he has, the less chance there is of him being placed back into slavery. Many days when he is not on a mission, he will go out in public, sit on a bench in the park or something similar, and scout out people to steal from. It doesn't matter to him if it's an elderly woman or young child that just received their allowance for the week. He will pickpocket them without any guilt or hesitation.
Fears:
- Death
- Being placed into slavery again
- Vincent Regal
Positive Traits: +10
- Acrobatic (+3): You have excellent body awareness and coordination.
- Deceitful (+2): You have a knack for disguising the truth. Your lies are difficult to distinguish from the truth.
- Persuasive (+2): You have a way with words and body language. Somehow you manage to persuade weaker minded people easily.
- Stealthy (+3): You are particularly good at avoiding notice. You could be sitting somewhere in a thread at a bar and people wouldn't even notice that you were there.
Negative Traits: -10
- Branded (-2): [left eye; see Extra] You have fled for a crime committed and now have a prominent brand. You may have been a criminal, a slave, or some other such illicit individual. The brand is such that it cannot be easily covered, and a cursory search reveals it each time. Law enforcement agents of any lawful land will immediately take you into custody if they see the mark, for extradition or imprisonment. It is your choice as to whether or not you were falsely accused of the crime.
- Cruel (-1): You have a sadistic streak that causes you to perform acts of cruelty for no good reason. Of course, this doesn't endear you to others. Most times you are prudent enough to carry out your cruelties on those under your thumb, rather than those you see as equals. However, you carry a constant social stigma, as rumors have their way of getting around.
- Fragility (-2): Due to a serious vitamin deficiency in your youth (or something similar), your bone structure is unnaturally weak, and you are overly thin.
- Ambitious (-1): You crave power. Money is nice, but being in charge of other people is your favorite thing. You are likely to be brought down by attempting a risky grab for power and failing. Even when deals are risky you will give in and agree most of times.
- Disfigurement (-2): [left eye; see Extra] A hideous disfigurement makes you ugly and easy to notice—-and easy to remember. Whatever your particular choice of disfigurement, it has to be something blatantly obvious to a casual glance. In addition, as it is a birth deformity, it cannot be healed, though you could employ magics to cover it via illusions in some instances, and perhaps utilize high level magics to transform yourself into a more pleasing form for the duration, though you'll always have the lingering fear of it being dispelled.
- Curiosity (-1): You're a naturally curious person and you find mysteries of any sort irresistible. In most circumstances, alas, your curiosity overrides your common sense. This forces you to investigate something unusual, even if it looks like it might be dangerous.
- Greedy (-1): Money makes your eyes light up with joy. The more, the merrier, as long as it spends. Once in a while, whenever you're divvying up shares of the loot, being offered a hefty bribe, or catching wind of some fabulous treasure, the flaw can to convince you to grab for as much money as possible.
IV. MAGIC
Magic: Thread Magic
Caster or Holder: Caster Magic
Description: With this magic, the user is able to generate magic threads. These threads can be used in numerous ways, ranging from entrapment to bisection, to connection of two objects. The strings are made entirely of magic, so any magic canceling item will completely nullify their effects. By shaping them and connecting them to certain objects, the user can create virtually anything in their imagination. The threads are generated from the user, but can be detached from them and attached to other people/objects that anyone can interact with. The color and size of these strings varies with the user's ability and desire, and can be retracted or elongated at will.
Strengths: This magic's utility use is unbelievable, allowing the user to scale surfaces, move quickly through areas or grab items/people at will. This magic can be used for trap setting and surprise ensnarements, allowing the user to catch their targets off guard and even bind them. By connecting objects with their threads, the user can cover gaps quickly and effectively, allowing them to avoid dangers that might otherwise hinder them.
Weaknesses: The problem with this magic is its lack of offensive and defensive capabilities. Though the threads can be used to cut through objects and enemies, its overall offensive capabilities are quite minute in comparison to most other magics. Defense capabilities are even lower, making dodging and manipulated movements much more desirable than simply taking a hit or tanking through it. The reach of the threads are limited to the user's ability, and can easily be dodged or destroyed. This forces the user to be careful with how they use them and generally means they cannot go for a straight up attack. These strings can only be attached to and control NPCs, they are unable to attach to PCs.
V. HISTORY
History:
- Spoiler:
- As a child Cyrus was sold into slavery by his mother who could not take care of him properly and would rather have the money than a second mouth to feed. As a result, Cyrus never knew either of his parents and grew up taken care of by the other slaves on Vincent's estate. Vincent Regal was Cyrus's master's name and each of his slaves was branded with a certain curse placed in one of their eyes. While on the estate, the curse would not show up but if any slave ever tried to leave, the curse would manifest in that eye. Their iris would turn deep pink and a red v-shape would show up in their eye, marking them as one of Vincent Regal's slaves.
Growing up, Cyrus hated his life and worked as Vincent's maid more or less. If his master wanted something to drink, Cyrus was sent to retrieve it. If he wanted his horse, Cyrus was sent to saddle it and bring it to the man. Cyrus was in charge of bringing Vincent food from the kitchens, drawing his bath, and even dressing him. At the end of the day Cyrus would often return home bloody and bruised as Vincent was not a kind master at all. He would beat Cyrus bloody for simply spilling water. Due to this, Cyrus grew to hate his master, as any slave would.
Cyrus had a hard time making friends or even relating to any of the other slaves. They often shunned and chastised him for having it easy, as they called it, working in the house and simply tending to Vincent's simple needs while they broke their backs out in the mines harvesting Lacrima. Some even beat him when he returned to his bunk to sleep. As a result, Cyrus ended up hating them just as much and promising to cause them as much pain as he could when he got the chance. Often times he'd report false testimonies and stories to Vincent about slaves stealing or planning to run after they beat Cyrus the night before or mistreated him.
Cyrus did have on friend though, an older man named Kincaid. The man would generally come to the aid of Cyrus and was respected by the others for his knowledge and decades of experience in the slave trade. When Cyrus was 15, he eavesdropped on a conversation Vincent was having with another master. The plan was to sell Cyrus off to the man, someone much worse, if that was even possible, than Vincent Kincaid had warned him. As such, Kincaid and Cyrus attempted escape that night. In the end, Kincaid couldn't keep up with the younger boy and sacrificed himself to their pursuers so that Cyrus could get away. Cyrus, not knowing his birth last name, took Kincaid's own to pay homage to the only person that ever showed him kindness.
As an escaped slave, especially a marked one, life was tough for Cyrus. He had to wear masks and eyepatches to cover the activated curse. He lived as a street urchin for a few years before discovering his Thread Magic. From there he became a master pickpocket and quickly began saving money. After several months he had enough to buy his own place and the guild Phantom Lord took notice of him. At the age of 18 he was invited to join their guild and did so happily.
